Two Arrested in ₹80 Lakh Online Investment Fraud, ₹25 Lakh in Shares Frozen

New Delhi, June 21: The Delhi Police have apprehended two suspects in a significant online investment fraud case. The accused lured a victim with promises of high returns in the stock market, swindling nearly ₹80 lakh. During the investigation, police managed to freeze shares worth approximately ₹25 lakh.

According to the Delhi Police, the suspects were arrested in New Delhi and Gurugram after tracing financial transactions. They have been identified as Piyush Kumar from Karol Bagh, Delhi, and Jatin Khajotia from Gurugram.

The victim was enticed by the accused to invest in stock market-related schemes, promising attractive and high returns. Trusting them, the victim transferred nearly ₹80 lakh through multiple transactions. However, neither the promised returns nor the invested amount was ever returned.

Following the victim’s complaint, the police registered a case and formed a team for investigation. The team meticulously examined bank accounts, financial transactions, digital evidence, and mobile data. By analyzing the accounts involved and conducting continuous technical surveillance, the police traced the movement of the defrauded amount and identified those involved in the scam. Subsequently, both suspects were arrested.

During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they gained the victim’s trust and convinced them to invest large sums in the stock market and investment schemes by promising exorbitant returns.

The investigation also uncovered that a portion of the defrauded money was transferred to various beneficiary accounts and invested in different stock market instruments. Following the suspects’ disclosures, the police team traced the money trail and identified assets acquired through the crime.

In further action, the police froze shares worth approximately ₹25 lakh. The Delhi Police stated that they are verifying the suspects’ previous criminal involvement. Ongoing investigations aim to identify other beneficiaries, trace the remaining defrauded amount, and expose the entire fraud network.
