Washington, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Former President Donald Trump has once again asserted that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, though he expressed skepticism about the likelihood of receiving it. Speaking about the 2026 award, Trump stated, “I don’t know what their decision will be,” as the Norwegian Nobel Committee is set to announce the winners this Friday.
Trump cast doubt on the committee’s credibility, suggesting, “They have a reputation for not giving this award to people like me.” Since returning to the White House last year, he has consistently claimed that he is deserving of this prestigious honor.
In remarks made Wednesday night from the Oval Office, Trump declared, “The time has come.” He recalled feeling honored to indirectly receive the award from the previous laureate, who stated that “no one in history deserves it more than President Trump.”
The former president’s claim is particularly linked to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who presented him with her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal in January 2026. She did this as a gesture of gratitude for U.S. aid to Venezuela.
Since taking office in January last year, Trump has frequently claimed his significant role in ending eight conflicts, arguing that this justifies his candidacy for the award. However, Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan have nominated him, but the parties involved in these conflicts often question his diplomatic efforts.
Moreover, violence continues in regions such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and along the Cambodia-Thailand border. Trump has not been able to resolve the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, despite promising to end it on the first day of his second term. Tensions with Iran, fueled by U.S.-Israeli strikes, have persisted for seven months, disrupting global energy supplies.
This year’s Nobel Peace Prize race features prominent contenders, including Pope Leo, the International Criminal Court, and a special rapporteur for the Palestinian territories.
