Washington, March 22: U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran. He stated that if Iran does not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, the United States will target Iranian power plants.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared, “If Iran does not completely open the Strait of Hormuz without any threats within 48 hours, the United States will destroy their various power plants, starting with the largest one.”
Previously, Trump urged American allies and major global economies to take responsibility for securing this vital maritime route. He dismissed calls for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
Speaking to reporters, Trump emphasized, “We do not use the Strait of Hormuz; the United States does not need it. Europe, Korea, Japan, and China need it, so they must get involved.”
He described the reopening of the strait as “a simple military exercise,” although he acknowledged that it would require coordination and extensive effort. “It is relatively safe, but it needs a lot of help. You need ships, and you need a large number of soldiers. NATO has yet to show the courage to act,” he added.
Trump also called on partners in the Indo-Pacific region, such as South Korea and Australia, to take a more active role, expressing surprise at their reluctance.
Moreover, Trump made it clear that despite increasing international calls, the U.S. would not halt its military campaign. “When you are nearly destroying the other side, a ceasefire cannot happen; we do not intend to do that,” he stated.
He further claimed that Iran’s military capabilities have significantly weakened, stating, “They have no navy, no air force, no anti-aircraft weapons. Their leaders have been killed at every level, indicating that the campaign is nearing its objectives.”
