Tel Aviv, May 25: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump. They agreed that any final agreement with Iran must eliminate the nuclear threat. This entails dismantling Iran’s nuclear enrichment sites and removing enriched nuclear material from the region. President Trump also reiterated Israel’s right to defend itself against threats from all fronts, including Lebanon.
Netanyahu shared on social media platform X, “I discussed with President Trump the Memorandum of Understanding to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the upcoming negotiations on a final agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program. I greatly appreciate President Trump’s firm commitment to Israel’s security, which includes operations like Roaring Lion and Epic Fury, where U.S. and Israeli forces fought shoulder to shoulder against the Iranian threat.”
He emphasized that the partnership between the two nations has proven effective on the battlefield and is stronger than ever. Like President Trump, my policy is clear: Iran must not possess nuclear weapons.
Reports suggest that the draft agreement may include proposals to end conflicts on all fronts, including Israeli attacks on Lebanon. Netanyahu, who is calling for the complete disarmament of Hezbollah, may not be pleased if such provisions are included in the agreement.
Despite a ceasefire brokered by the U.S. last month, Israel has continued regular airstrikes in southern Lebanon, particularly in both northern and southern regions of the Litani River. In response, the Iran-backed Lebanese armed group Hezbollah has launched rocket and drone attacks on Israeli soldiers in northern Israel and southern Lebanon.
