Agartala, May 14: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal, the Tripura government has introduced a work-from-home policy for 50% of Group C and Group D employees in the state. The government states that this initiative will save fuel and reduce government expenditure.
This decision comes in response to PM Modi’s request for individuals and organizations to conserve fuel and work from home wherever possible.
According to the order issued by the Tripura government, all department heads must ensure that only 50% of Group C and Group D employees report to the office each day. The remaining employees will work from home. A weekly roster will be prepared to facilitate this arrangement, allowing employees to alternate their office attendance. The government has also advised that priority be given in the first week to those employees who live close to the office, minimizing fuel consumption for commuting.
Employees working from home must remain accessible via phone and online channels at all times. They may be called to the office on short notice if necessary. The government has directed that this arrangement also applies to public enterprises, local bodies, and other autonomous institutions.
However, this order will not apply to employees engaged in essential and emergency services. Hospitals, electricity, water, and other critical services will continue to operate as usual. The order is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
The district administration in South Tripura has already begun implementing this system. If successful, it is believed that other states may adopt similar measures. The work-from-home model has gained popularity since the COVID-19 pandemic and is now being viewed as a strategy for fuel conservation and cost reduction.
