
Bhagalpur, June 18: A viral video showing stone-pelting on a train in the Bhagalpur-Nathanagar rail section has led to swift action by a joint team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB). The main accused, identified as Mohammad Irfan, 41, has been arrested. He is a resident of Mohaddipur, Habibpur police station in Bhagalpur district.
The RPF team, led by Inspector Amit Kumar Giri, Sub-Inspector Purnendu Kumar, Head Constable Uttam Sarkar, GRP Station Officer Naseem Ahmed, and CIB’s Amarendra Rajak, conducted a rapid operation that resulted in Irfan’s apprehension. After interrogation and necessary legal procedures, he was presented in a local court, which sent him to judicial custody.
The RPF has adopted a strict stance on this matter, emphasizing that any antisocial elements jeopardizing railway property, trains, and passenger safety will not be spared. They have committed to a ‘zero tolerance’ policy, ensuring stringent legal action in such cases.
The viral video clearly depicted the stone-pelting incident, which instilled fear among passengers. Following its rapid spread on social media, the RPF team in Bhagalpur intensified their investigation and operations, successfully apprehending the accused within days.
Interrogation of the accused has revealed several crucial insights, prompting further investigations. Authorities are also probing whether Irfan acted alone or if a gang or other individuals were involved. Such incidents not only compromise the safety of rail travel but also damage railway property.
The RPF has urged the public to report any suspicious activities near railway tracks or incidents of stone-pelting to the nearest RPF/GRP station or helpline number immediately.
