Wardha, August 23: A devastating road accident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Wardha district, Maharashtra, involving a tempo traveler and a tipper truck. Seventeen passengers aboard the traveler were injured, including women and children, with several reported to be in critical condition. The incident took place around 2 PM near Ramna Fata on the Selu-Wardha route.
According to reports, the tempo traveler was transporting pilgrims from Nagpur to Nashik when it collided violently with a tipper that was turning towards Wardha. Eyewitnesses noted that the tipper lacked a number plate, and the traveler’s driver failed to anticipate the turn in time.
The impact was so severe that the front of the traveler was completely wrecked, with the driver’s side crushed, trapping the driver inside the cabin. Local residents rushed to the scene to assist and began rescue operations.
It took nearly an hour of effort for the rescue team to extricate the driver, who was then transported to a hospital. All passengers in the traveler sustained injuries, and they were immediately admitted to Sevagram Hospital for treatment.
Residents have expressed concerns that the Ramna Fata area on the Wardha-Nagpur highway has become a hotspot for road accidents. This location is increasingly recognized as a dangerous black spot.
According to locals, vehicles crossing at this junction often fail to see oncoming traffic until the last moment, leading to serious accidents. Additionally, the lack of adequate warning signs, speed limit indicators, and safety measures is believed to be a significant factor contributing to these incidents.
Community members have urged authorities to install warning signs at Ramna Fata, implement measures to control vehicle speeds, and develop safer crossing arrangements. They warn that without timely action, more severe accidents could occur in the future.
