Mumbai, August 12: A devastating fire broke out in a residential building in Ville Parle West, Mumbai, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, including an infant. Six others sustained injuries in the incident.
According to the Mumbai Fire Department, they received reports of the fire around 10:00 PM on Tuesday. Initially classified as a level-1 fire, it escalated to level-2 by 10:16 PM. Firefighters managed to control the blaze by approximately 1:00 AM after extensive efforts.
Police officer R.V. Bhosale stated, “The fire erupted in a residential flat located on the 11th floor of an 11-story building around 10 PM. The injured have been admitted to hospitals. One firefighter also sustained injuries.”
To combat the fire, eight fire engines were deployed, equipped with specialized tools. Bhosale further explained that the flames spread from electrical wires, an air conditioning unit, and various household items like a sofa, bed, and kitchenware in two flats on the 11th floor.
Officials reported that a total of eight individuals were injured; six were taken to Nanavati Hospital, while two were transported to Cooper Hospital. Cooper Hospital confirmed that firefighter Manoj Sonawane and another injured person, Shivam Dwivedi, received treatment and were discharged.
Additionally, Nanavati Hospital officials indicated that two of the six brought in were declared dead, while the other four were in stable condition. The deceased have been identified as Abir (2.5 years old) and Ankita (23 years old). The injured include Parth (32), Hiren (64), Yashaswi, and Abhishek, all of whom are reported to be stable.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which remains unknown, and are working to determine how it spread so rapidly across the floor. Further updates are awaited.
