Lucknow, June 23: Four years ago, two hearts met while working in the same office. Over time, friendship blossomed into love, and they began dreaming of a life together. With family approval, wedding preparations were underway, and joy filled their homes. However, fate had other plans. What should have been a time of celebration has turned into mourning.
A devastating fire at a coaching institute in Aliganj, Lucknow, claimed the lives of 29-year-old Nilesh and his fiancée. Nilesh was the hope of his family. His mother is inconsolable, his father is in shock, and his sister is repeatedly breaking down over memories of her brother. Where wedding plans once filled the air, silence now reigns.
Family members have accused the fire department of negligence, stating that timely intervention could have saved Nilesh and many others. Nilesh’s elder brother recounted receiving a call from KGMU about an incident, but they could not get full details over the phone. Upon arriving at the hospital, they learned of Nilesh’s tragic fate.
Nilesh was a 3D designer, creating characters and props for games. His fiancée was also a designer. Both had worked together for four years. The fire broke out on the lower floor, leaving no escape route. Tragically, both Nilesh and his fiancée lost their lives.
Additionally, Nilesh’s brother raised concerns about the building, which had been declared illegal a decade ago. He questioned why no action had been taken since then. Family members alleged that there were no fire safety measures in place in the building, and firefighters arrived late. “If help had arrived on time, my brother would still be with us,” he lamented.
Eyewitness Mohammad Asif described the chaos, stating that while they were working, staff alerted them to a fire caused by a short circuit. As they attempted to exit, the power went out, and the biometric machine failed, trapping them inside. Thick smoke filled the stairwell, and they had to cover their mouths with towels and escape through a window.
Another witness emotionally shared that his sister also perished in the fire. She was the sole breadwinner in their family, and with their father’s passing two years ago, the family has lost its only support.
Families of the victims have urged the public not to gather merely to film such tragedies but to step forward and assist at the local level to save lives.
