Jaipur, June 10: A devastating fire at an illegal firecracker factory in the Khoh Nagorian area of Jaipur has resulted in the deaths of eight individuals, including a child. This incident occurred just a day before the suspension of two police officers from the Khoh Nagorian police station, Assistant Sub-Inspector Amar Singh and Head Constable Pappu Ram.
Since Tuesday night, police teams have been conducting raids in Khoh Nagorian and surrounding areas. During these operations, a significant quantity of illegally stored explosives was seized from three different factories and warehouses.
Authorities have sealed five factories and warehouses linked to firecracker production and storage. Raids were also conducted in several homes in Ayesha Colony, where firecrackers were allegedly being manufactured. However, as of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been made.
The incident has raised serious concerns about administrative negligence and police inaction, prompting a large-scale crackdown on illegal firecracker manufacturing units in the area. The fire broke out around 11 AM on Tuesday, reportedly in an illegal unit operated by Yakub, the son of Nazir Khan, who resides in the “Raksha Ki Dhani” area of Khoh Nagorian.
Police reported that both Yakub and the alleged factory operator, Firoz, who is from Delhi, have been absconding since the incident. The fire claimed the lives of eight people, including a child and two brothers, marking one of the deadliest industrial accidents in Jaipur in recent years.
During a raid in Javed Vihar, police sealed three warehouses located in close proximity to each other. Investigators discovered two machines allegedly used for firecracker production. Officials indicated that these warehouses were utilized for both the manufacture and storage of explosive materials.
In addition to the warehouse where the fatal incident occurred in Ayesha Colony, authorities have sealed three other warehouses linked to the suspects in Javed Vihar. Reports suggest these locations belong to Yakub and his nephew Qayoom, both identified as key suspects in the case.
Following this latest action, the total number of sealed factories and warehouses has risen to five. Preliminary investigations revealed that the factory was producing cold firecrackers, typically used during weddings and celebrations. Authorities found that the premises were divided by a wall to conceal the firecracker production from public view.
As the investigation progresses, officials are striving to determine how such a large-scale firecracker manufacturing unit could operate in a densely populated residential area, despite repeated concerns regarding safety and regulatory compliance.
