Seven Militants, Including a Woman, Arrested in Manipur; Weapons and Drugs Seized

Imphal, August 31: Security forces in Manipur have arrested seven militants linked to various banned organizations in separate operations across different districts over the past 24 hours. Among those detained is a female activist.

In another coordinated operation, a significant cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered in Bishnupur district, along with the arrest of two drug traffickers.

A police officer reported that a joint effort by the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, and other central security forces led to the capture of the militants in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, and Kakching districts.

The arrested militants are associated with the banned groups including the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), United National Liberation Front (UNLF), People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and its political wing, Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).

The officer noted that the detained militants were allegedly involved in various crimes and illegal activities.

Among the seven, a joint team from the security forces apprehended an active female worker of KCP (People’s War Group) from Thoubal district. She has been identified as Laishram Abem Devi, aged 37.

The joint team also seized a large quantity of weapons and ammunition in Bishnupur district. The recovered items included a 9mm pistol (with magazine), a .32 pistol (with magazine), a homemade AK rifle (with magazine), a homemade MP-9 (with magazine), a homemade SBBL gun, a homemade .22 rifle (with magazine), two 36-hand grenades, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), heavy ammunition of various calibers, and other accessories.

Meanwhile, the Manipur Police arrested two drug traffickers during a routine search in the Silk Production Training Center area, seizing five soap boxes filled with approximately 53 grams of heroin.

The arrested traffickers have been identified as Amir Khan (34) and Mohammad Bungo (33). Authorities also seized a two-wheeler used by the suspects.

In addition, security forces, including the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Manipur Police, have continued extensive anti-terrorism operations throughout the state, focusing on border areas, mixed-population regions, and other sensitive locations.
