
Srinagar, April 20: A tragic bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, has resulted in the deaths of at least 14 individuals. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed their profound sorrow over the incident. The Prime Minister took to social media platform X to convey his condolences, stating he was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of life and property due to the bus accident.
President Murmu also shared her grief on X, saying, “I am extremely saddened to learn about the deaths of several people in the bus accident in Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
In his post, PM Modi expressed, “I convey my deepest sympathies to those who have lost their loved ones in this tragic accident. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured.” He announced that each family of the deceased would receive a compensation of ₹2 lakh from the PMNRF, while the injured would receive ₹50,000.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his sorrow on X, stating, “I am deeply pained by the tragic bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. The loss of precious lives is extremely distressing. My heartfelt condolences to the affected families during this time of grief. I pray for the quick recovery of the injured and for strength to all those impacted by this incident.”
Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha described the accident as heart-wrenching. He expressed his condolences to the grieving families and prayed for the injured’s swift recovery. He has instructed the district administration, police, SDRF, and health department to provide all possible assistance to those affected.
According to Udhampur’s ADC, Prem Singh, the accident occurred in the Ramnagar area at a location known as Kagot Mor, where a bus traveling from Ramnagar to Udhampur met with an accident. So far, approximately 13 to 14 fatalities have been confirmed, although exact figures are still pending. Around 33 individuals have been reported injured.
A soldier involved in a nearby exercise reported that upon seeing the overturned bus, their team immediately rushed to rescue the victims. They managed to recover several bodies and saved five to six individuals alive.
