Major Fire Breaks Out at HPCL Refinery in Rajasthan, Government Orders Investigation

Jaipur, April 20: A significant fire incident at the HPCL refinery in Pachpadra, Rajasthan, has raised alarms among local authorities and the state government. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma described the event as extremely unfortunate and has ordered an investigation.

In a post on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Sharma expressed his concerns, stating that the fire at the HPCL Rajasthan refinery is indeed regrettable. He has engaged in discussions with administrative officials and refinery management to gather detailed information about the situation, which is currently under control.

In light of safety protocols, Prime Minister Modi’s proposed visit has been postponed. High-level directives for a thorough investigation into the incident have been issued.

Earlier, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas shared information on X, indicating that the scheduled inauguration of the refinery by Prime Minister Modi on April 21 has been postponed due to this unfortunate incident involving a fire near the crude distillation unit.

The fire has been extinguished, and there are no reports of casualties. An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the incident and to implement necessary corrective measures. A new date for the inauguration will be announced in due course.

State Chief Secretary V. Srinivasan labeled the fire incident at the Pachpadra refinery as “highly unfortunate.” Speaking to the media after arriving in Jodhpur, he confirmed that the fire occurred in the crude distillation unit (CDU), but reassured that it has been completely brought under control.

The Chief Secretary stated that a detailed investigation will be conducted to ascertain the causes of the incident. He praised the refinery’s engineers and team for their prompt action in controlling the fire, which prevented a major disaster. Importantly, he clarified that there were no casualties, and all employees working at the site are safe.

V. Srinivasan mentioned that Chief Minister Sharma is scheduled to visit the Pachpadra refinery on Tuesday. He will return to the site to gather more information about the incident. For now, the situation remains under control, and all employees at the refinery are secure.
