Pakistani Terrorist Lived in India for 14 Years Using Fake Identity, Raises Concerns from Former DGP

Jammu, April 20: A Pakistani terrorist associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba has been living in India for over 14 years using a fake identity. Former Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, SP Vaid, has raised serious questions regarding the ease of obtaining fake identification in the country.

The individual, identified as Umar Harris, hails from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, and has a criminal record there, including time spent in prison. Agencies like Pakistan’s ISI often radicalize such individuals, recruiting them into terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. He was trained and infiltrated into India, where he operated not only in Jammu and Kashmir but also in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

Vaid emphasized the alarming fact that Harris created a fake identity under the name ‘Sajjad’ in Rajasthan and obtained forged documents, including a marriage certificate. He questioned how easy it is to acquire fake identification in India. “Is it really that simple to obtain a passport, marriage certificate, residence proof, or Aadhaar card in India?” he asked.

He also raised concerns about how the accused managed to travel to Saudi Arabia despite the country’s robust immigration system. Vaid urged the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate how Harris obtained fake identification and other documents, and who may have been involved in this process. If everything was fraudulent, how did he manage to leave the country?

While some similar cases have come to light, Vaid questioned how many more individuals are out there. He called for an investigation into the leaking of sensitive information, stressing the need to address these vulnerabilities as they pose a significant threat to national security. Such individuals can move freely across the country posing as Indian citizens.

Regarding the recent detention of two American tourists in Srinagar with a satellite phone, Vaid stated that this could also be a potential threat to the nation. He commended the agencies for their swift action and called for an inquiry into how the tourists managed to bring the phone into the country and who authorized it.

On the cancellation of the second round of talks between Iran and the United States, he noted the lack of trust between the two nations, increasing the likelihood of failure in negotiations. He also mentioned that Donald Trump has placed the responsibility for talks on Pakistan, further diminishing the chances of success.
