Srinagar, June 10: A tragic explosion near the Line of Control (LOC) in the Uri sector of Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in the deaths of two soldiers. Officials reported the incident on Tuesday.
The blast occurred in the Kamalkot area of the Uri sector, leaving both soldiers severely injured.
The deceased soldiers have been identified as Arjun Jadhav and Vikram Balakrishna, both residents of Maharashtra. Following their injuries, they were admitted to the Army Base Hospital in Badami Bagh, Srinagar. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, they could not be saved.
Both soldiers were affiliated with the 8 National Rifles. The cause of the explosion remains unknown, and further details are awaited.
The LOC stretches approximately 740 kilometers through the Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts in Jammu and Kashmir. In the Jammu division, the LOC is located in Poonch, Rajouri, and partially in Jammu district. Additionally, the Union Territory has an international border of about 240 kilometers that passes through Samba, Jammu, and Kathua districts.
The Indian Army is responsible for securing the LOC, while the Border Security Force (BSF) oversees the international border. Both forces are deployed in border areas to prevent infiltration, smuggling, and drone activities.
To counter drone threats, advanced anti-drone systems have been deployed along the LOC and the international border. Security agencies indicate that terrorist networks based in Pakistan, along with their supporting elements, attempt to transport weapons, ammunition, cash, and narcotics into Indian territory via drones.
These materials are collected by Over Ground Workers (OGWs) linked to terrorist organizations and later delivered to active terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
