Sarita Vihar, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : A devastating accident occurred early Sunday morning in Sarita Vihar, South Delhi, when a dump truck collided with a stationary crane and an auto-rickshaw. The incident, which took place around 3:20 AM, resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left three others injured.
According to preliminary reports, the dump truck was traveling from Noida, Uttar Pradesh, when it struck the parked vehicles. At the time of the accident, crews were installing CCTV cameras as part of the ‘Safe City Project’ near the site.
The victims have been identified as 23-year-old Umesh, 35-year-old Praveen, and 34-year-old Suraj. Officials noted that Suraj was an HR manager with a company involved in the Safe City Project. The three injured individuals, identified as Akash, Anup, and Khem Singh, are currently receiving medical treatment. Another person, Sudhir, narrowly escaped the incident.
Family members of the deceased are devastated. Ramdas, Umesh’s father, recounted, “Two people were above and two were below, working on the cameras. They tried to signal the dump truck driver to stop, but he didn’t. All were caught under the truck and dragged along. Umesh was caught between the truck’s wheels. The driver was asleep at the wheel.”
Ratan Singh, Umesh’s brother, added, “Umesh was installing cameras for traffic police. Some were standing below, while others were above. The speeding truck hit four or five people, including the parked auto. One or two died on the spot, while the others succumbed to injuries at the hospital.”
Umesh leaves behind two children and lived in a rented home in Sangam Vihar. His family is calling for justice, demanding that the truck driver be held accountable. Following the incident, the driver fled the scene, and authorities are actively searching for him. An investigation into the accident is underway.
