Jaipur, June 30: A tragic incident occurred in the Karauli district of Rajasthan near the Bhopar River when an 11 kV high-tension power line fell onto the road. A motorcycle passing by came into contact with the live wire, resulting in a sudden fire. Three individuals, including an uncle and his nephew, lost their lives at the scene. The area is currently tense, with the victim’s family and local residents protesting for compensation for the last 18 hours.
The grieving family refused to allow the bodies to be removed and staged a sit-in. Their protest has lasted over 18 hours, demanding ₹5 million in compensation for each victim and a government job for one member of each affected family.
According to Todabhim DSP Murari Lal Meena, the deceased have been identified as Ram Babu (45), Vishnu (22), and Chaube Jatav (44), all residents of Akhada village in the Balghat police station area.
The three men, who worked as daily wage laborers in Hindon, were returning home on their motorcycle when the power line fell on an unpaved road near the Bhopar River. Their motorcycle became entangled in the live wire, delivering a fatal electric shock. The motorcycle caught fire immediately. Local residents attempted to extinguish the flames with soil, but unfortunately, the victims had already succumbed to their injuries.
Police reported that Chaube Jatav was Vishnu’s uncle, while Ram Babu was their neighbor. The incident occurred around 5 PM. Following the tragedy, authorities suspended the feeder in-charge of the electricity department until further investigations are completed.
In the wake of this heartbreaking event, family members and villagers refused to allow the bodies to be taken for post-mortem and instead began their protest at the site. They are demanding ₹5 million for each deceased and government jobs for family members.
Todabhim MLA Ghanshyam Mehar and Hindon MLA Anit Jatav visited the protest site to support the families involved.
Despite several rounds of discussions led by SDM Aman Chaudhary, the protests continued throughout the night without resolution, as families remained steadfast in their demands. MLA Ghanshyam Mehar stated that the protest would persist until the administration provides written assurances regarding compensation and employment. As a result, the bodies remain at the protest site by the riverbank.
A heavy police presence has been deployed to maintain law and order. Senior officials, including Karauli SP Murari Lal Meena, SDM Aman Chaudhary, and ASP Satendra Pal Singh, are monitoring the situation and engaging with the protesters.
