Tragic Accident Claims Life of 8-Year-Old at Rajasthan School

Jaipur, April 20: A tragic incident unfolded at St. Anthony’s School in Rajasthan on Monday, resulting in the death of an eight-year-old student during a handball game. The event has cast a shadow of grief over the city.

The accident occurred around 12:30 PM within the jurisdiction of the Govardhan Vilas police station. The third-grade student, Maharth Raj Singh, was playing on the school grounds when the goalpost fell, severely injuring him.

According to police officials, the child was hanging onto the handball goalpost with other students when it suddenly collapsed. He lost his balance, and the goalpost fell directly onto his head. He was rushed to MB Hospital, where doctors initiated emergency treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries around 2:00 PM.

Maharth was the only son of his parents. Reports indicate that his father, Devendra Pal Singh Chauhan, fainted upon seeing his son in the hospital and is currently receiving treatment. The family was later informed, and the child’s body was sent to the mortuary for an autopsy.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Pratap Singh reported that the child resided in RK Puram, Titaradi, and that his father works in the real estate sector.

School principal William D’Souza stated that the incident occurred during playtime. He mentioned that the staff was alerted about the injury and immediately transported the child to the hospital. The staff attempted CPR, and doctors did everything possible to save him.

Following the incident, the deceased’s family and members of the Karni Sena gathered outside the hospital mortuary, expressing concerns over alleged negligence by the school administration. A heated debate ensued between family members and representatives of private school associations.

The family raised questions about the school’s safety measures and demanded accountability. After discussions between the family and school officials, the body was handed over to the relatives.

The funeral will take place in the family’s ancestral village, Umbada, in the Banswara district. The police have launched an investigation to determine if there was any negligence in the school’s safety protocols.
