Strict Action Against Modified Silencers and Pressure Horns in Gautam Buddh Nagar

Noida, April 20: The transport department has decided to take stringent measures to control rising noise pollution in Gautam Buddh Nagar. A comprehensive crackdown on the illegal use of modified silencers, pressure horns, and hooters will be implemented.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement) Dr. Udit Narayan Pandey announced that a special campaign will be launched in compliance with directives from the Transport Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh. He noted that the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench has adopted a strict stance on this issue, ordering effective action. Consequently, the transport department has devised a strategy to closely monitor violators and ensure strict punitive measures.

As part of the campaign, meetings will be held with transport unions, motor garage operators, and workshop owners. These sessions aim to raise awareness about the adverse effects of noise pollution and the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. Additionally, citizens will be encouraged to report complaints through the department’s helpline numbers to effectively address this issue.

Dr. Pandey clarified that surprise inspections of motor garages and workshops will be conducted during the campaign. If any location is found selling or fitting modified silencers or other noise-polluting devices, strict action will be taken against the operators, which may include hefty fines and other legal penalties. Vehicle owners who have made unauthorized modifications will also face penalties.

Using such vehicles in public spaces will not only incur fines but may also result in the suspension or disqualification of driving licenses for a specified period. Furthermore, the registration certificates (RC) of such vehicles will be prioritized for suspension.

The transport department has instructed enforcement teams to conduct intensive checking campaigns. Officials stated that regular reviews of this campaign will be conducted, and any negligence will not be tolerated. They urged the public to adhere to regulations and refrain from using modified silencers or pressure horns, as these not only increase noise pollution but also compromise road safety.
