Traditional Sports to Feature in Gujarats Sports Mahakumbh, Focus on Youth Talent Hunt

Morbi, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : International rifle shooter Anju Sharma has called on athletes and children to register for the Sports Mahakumbh, set to take place in Morbi, Gujarat. Speaking at a press conference, she emphasized the inclusion of traditional games that have faded from the current generation’s memory.

Sharma noted that the Sports Mahakumbh will particularly focus on children aged 5 to 15, in line with the Talent Hunt initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2026. “The main aim of this press conference is to inform everyone that registration for the Sports Mahakumbh is now open, and it will close on September 22. I urge students and the general public in Morbi to register,” she stated.

To promote the event, seminars have been conducted in various villages and schools, encouraging maximum participation from children. Sharma remarked on the excitement surrounding the event, likening it to the festive enthusiasm seen during local celebrations. “Children are now telling their parents about the Sports Mahakumbh and expressing their desire to participate,” she added.

The event will showcase traditional games, such as Langdi and Satoliya, which have largely been forgotten by today’s youth. “It is essential that we keep these traditional games alive for future generations,” Sharma asserted.

She also highlighted the importance of increasing India’s participation in various sports, noting that during the Olympics, India competes in only a limited number of events. “We need to participate in more sports and provide better opportunities for our athletes to improve India’s performance on the global stage,” she said. The Talent Hunt initiative specifically targets the youth, aiming to harness the nation’s potential.

Winners of the Sports Mahakumbh will receive awards, along with benefits from various government schemes. Sharma explained that the Gujarat government covers expenses related to education and other necessities for the winning children, along with providing medals and prizes.
