Nagoya, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : India’s Chef de Mission, Sahdev Yadav, announced that the travel and accommodation issues faced by the athletes upon their arrival in Japan have been resolved. The Indian contingent has made a strong start at the 2026 Asian Games, securing six medals so far.
Initially, the team encountered difficulties in logistics, but Yadav assured that necessary arrangements have now been made as the competition progresses. “We faced some challenges, but we have sorted everything out. We have booked rooms and arranged transportation,” he stated. “Everything is fine now. The athletics team arrived today, and we will see how it goes from here. If any issues arise, we will keep you informed. For now, everything is under control.”
On the third day of the Asian Games, India clinched its third medal, with the men’s shooting team winning a silver medal in the 10-meter air rifle team event. Additionally, Suchika Tariyal became the first Indian female athlete to win a medal in mixed martial arts, securing a bronze despite losing in the semifinals.
In individual events, Himansh Dhillon won silver in the 10-meter air rifle, while Rudraksh Patil earned a bronze. Out of the six medals won by India so far, five have come from shooting. On Sunday, the women’s team also secured a silver medal in the 10-meter air rifle event, and Elavenil Valarivan achieved silver in her individual competition.
As more team members arrive in Japan, Yadav emphasized that they will closely monitor the situation, particularly when the athletics team competes on Monday. The early success has raised expectations for India across various sports, but Yadav believes that the country’s campaign is just beginning. He highlighted weightlifting as another area where India is likely to secure podium finishes. “The start has been good, but this is just the beginning. There are still many events left, and we will be in contention for more medals,” he added.
