TMCs Original National Committee List Submitted to Election Commission

Kolkata, June 23: The faction of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) loyal to Mamata Banerjee has sent a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI), detailing what it claims to be the party’s “original” and “authentic” national committee.

This group, which remains steadfast in its support for Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, asserts that the list submitted represents the true national committee of the party. This move comes in response to the announcement made by a “rebellious yet majority” faction of TMC legislators in the West Bengal Assembly, which declared a parallel national committee on Monday.

According to sources, the Mamata-supporting faction sent this information to the ECI on Monday night, shortly after the rebel group, led by opposition leader Ritabrata Banerjee, unveiled a new national committee that excluded both Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee.

The list submitted to the Election Commission identifies Mamata Banerjee as the national president, Subrata Bakshi as the national vice president, and Abhishek Banerjee as the general secretary.

Additionally, Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen have been appointed as joint secretaries, while former Rajya Sabha MP Subhashish Chakraborty has been designated as the treasurer.

In response to this development, Ritabrata Banerjee stated he would refrain from commenting but extended his best wishes to the other faction.

Meanwhile, the new national committee announced by the rebel group on Monday evening has appointed senior legislator and former minister Arup Roy as the president, replacing Mamata Banerjee. Former minister Arup Biswas has been named vice president, with legislators Firhad Hakim and Rathin Ghosh also taking on vice president roles.

The new committee has assigned the responsibilities of general secretary to Ritabrata Banerjee, Javed Khan, Sandipan Saha, and Sabina Yasmeen, while Akhruzzaman has been appointed treasurer.

The “original but minority” faction loyal to Mamata Banerjee has urged the Election Commission in its letter to recognize only the national committee it presented, dismissing the legitimacy of the new committee declared by the rebel faction.
