Kolkata, May 28: Several Aadhaar cards were discovered at a Trinamool Congress (TMC) office in the Tangra area of Kolkata on Thursday.
According to reports, the office located on East Kuliya Road had been closed since the results of the assembly elections were announced on May 4. Local residents broke the lock to enter the office, where they found the Aadhaar cards stored inside a cabinet.
As news of the discovery spread, a crowd gathered outside the TMC office. Many expressed surprise at how these documents ended up there. Some individuals claimed they already possessed their original Aadhaar cards, while others stated that despite completing the necessary procedures, they had yet to receive theirs.
The police were promptly notified about the incident, and an investigation has commenced.
A local resident alleged that his daughter’s Aadhaar card was issued but never received. This raises suspicions about the delivery of the cards. Some individuals also suggested that these documents could have been misused, although these claims have not yet been verified.
The police have been informed, and the investigation is ongoing. The TMC has not yet issued an official response regarding the matter.
This party office falls under the Beleghata assembly constituency. Local sources indicate that the office was previously used by TMC leader Jiban Kumar Saha, but there has been little activity since the elections, with very few party members visiting.
Questions are being raised about why such a large number of Aadhaar cards were kept at a political party office. Some individuals have claimed that these documents might have been intended for creating fake voter ID cards, although these allegations have not been officially confirmed.
