Iran to Hold Memorial Events for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Starting July 4

Tehran, June 14: Iran will commence memorial events for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on July 4. According to Iranian media reports, this information was released by a statement from the headquarters established in his memory.

The statement indicated that tribute events will take place at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla prayer hall in Tehran on July 4 and 5. Following these events, a final procession will occur on July 6 and 7 in the capital and the city of Qom in central Iran.

The final funeral ceremony is scheduled for July 9 in the northeastern city of Mashhad. On the same day, the late leader will be laid to rest at the holy shrine of Imam Reza, the eighth Imam of Shia Muslims.

According to Xinhua, Khamenei, who served as Iran’s Supreme Leader for an extended period, died on February 28 due to a joint airstrike by the United States and Israel. In early March, his son Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed as Iran’s new Supreme Leader.

The death of Khamenei in March was described as a result of a historic attack by the U.S. and Israel. This event is seen as a significant turning point for Iran’s 46-year-old Shia theocratic regime, leading to increased tensions and conflicts across many parts of the Middle East following Tehran’s retaliatory actions.

At that time, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced Khamenei’s death. Khamenei was 86 years old and had ruled Iran with a firm grip for the past 36 years.

Trump stated on his social media platform, Truth Social, “He could not escape our intelligence and highly advanced tracking systems. Working with Israel, we located him, and neither he nor the other leaders killed alongside him could evade this.”

Iran’s Fars News Agency reported that four of Khamenei’s relatives were also killed in the U.S.-Israel attacks, including his daughter, a grandchild, and his son-in-law.
