Kolkata, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Sougata Roy, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP, has voiced his disapproval of comments made by Bageshwar Baba regarding Bengali dietary practices. Speaking in Kolkata on September 8, Roy stated, “I don’t know where Bageshwar Baba comes from or who he is. He has no right to comment on Bengali cuisine. Notably, Swami Vivekananda himself consumed meat. It’s hard to find a Bengali saint greater than him. Therefore, I condemn Bageshwar Baba’s remarks.”
Roy also addressed ongoing discussions within his party concerning election symbols, indicating that the Election Commission has yet to allocate any symbols. He expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved soon.
Regarding the Kalighat Temple, Roy mentioned that the temple’s president is a district judge and suggested that he should provide clarity on related matters.
On the recent High Court remarks about FIRs against Abhishek Banerjee, Roy praised the court’s stance. He noted, “The state government is filing FIRs against Abhishek Banerjee daily. This is unjust, and I am pleased with the High Court’s clear directives on this issue.”
In reference to the Chief Minister‘s meeting about Durga Puja, Roy remarked that such gatherings are a yearly tradition for Mamata Banerjee. He pointed out that the Chief Minister has decided to reduce grants for puja committees, with smaller celebrations receiving one lakh and larger ones receiving no funding. “Bengalis will respond to this decision. While they may criticize Mamata Banerjee, they are following her path. I support the closure of DJs and liquor shops during the festivities,” he added.
