New Delhi, May 28: Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a Member of Parliament who recently resigned from several positions within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging misconduct by party Chief Whip Kalyan Banerjee. She accuses Banerjee of inappropriate behavior and disrespect towards female MPs within the Lok Sabha.
On May 27, Ghosh resigned from all her TMC positions but has not left the party itself. In her letter written on Thursday, she requested permission to file a formal complaint with the Lok Sabha Speaker. She claims that Banerjee has used offensive language towards her multiple times inside the Lok Sabha. This behavior, she asserts, is not limited to her but extends to other female MPs as well. She described it as a manifestation of a “woman-hostile mentality” and called for action against him.
In her letter, she stated, “I wish to seek your permission to file a formal complaint. AITC MP Kalyan Banerjee has verbally abused me several times within the Lok Sabha. This is an insulting attitude towards female MPs, and he should be penalized for it.”
Political circles are interpreting this incident as a reflection of growing internal discord within the Trinamool Congress. Following the assembly election results, party leader Mamata Banerjee removed Ghosh from her position as TMC Chief Whip and assigned the role to Kalyan Banerjee. This shift has led to a series of accusations and counter-accusations within the party’s parliamentary group. Ghosh officially resigned from the TMC on May 27.
As of now, there has been no official response from Kalyan Banerjee regarding these allegations. Ghosh had previously resigned from her position as the district president of TMC in Barasat before stepping down from all other party roles. She has now leveled serious accusations against a prominent party leader.
