Kolkata, May 6: TMC MP Dola Sen has attributed the party’s defeat in West Bengal to the Election Commission, making several serious allegations. Meanwhile, fellow MP Sougata Roy pointed to local issues and the I-PAC strategy as contributing factors to the loss.
In an interview regarding TMC’s defeat, Dola Sen stated, “We believe in complete transparency. If this were truly a clear mandate from the public, we would accept it. However, on the day of counting, the mandate was mismanaged, the democratic process was pushed beyond limits, and several illegal actions were taken. This was all deliberate. Even attempts were made to instill fear among the public in collaboration with Gyanesh Kumar’s team. What happened was not right.”
She further added, “During the elections, 9.2 million voters’ names were removed through SIR. If it was so necessary, why wasn’t SIR initiated from June 2024? The names of 9.2 million legitimate voters were cut. If these individuals were infiltrators, the Election Commission and Amit Shah should have released a list, but no such list has been issued yet. This implies that voters’ names were deliberately removed.”
Dola Sen claimed, “The BJP created an atmosphere of fear to win the elections. They deployed 250,000 central forces during the elections. Despite this, the public voted for Didi, but the counting of votes started very late. In nearly 100 locations where TMC candidates were leading, the data was not uploaded on the Election Commission’s website. Manipulation led to BJP’s victory.”
On the other hand, TMC MP Sougata Roy stated, “I know nothing about I-PAC. I cannot comment on it as they have not spoken to me, nor have I spoken to them. How can I say anything from the outside? I also don’t know what suggestions were made or what the outcomes were.”
He added, “The BJP succeeded in Hindu polarization and uniting Hindu votes, and that is how they achieved success.”
Regarding the future of TMC in West Bengal, Sougata Roy remarked, “The results in 2006 were even worse. We overcame that phase and came to power in 2011. Politics continues this way. There is no reason to be concerned about it.”
