TMC Leader Riju Dutta Questions Partys Urgency Over Frozen Accounts

Kolkata, June 30: Riju Dutta, a suspended leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has voiced his concerns regarding the party’s frozen bank accounts, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and the Prevention Detention Act in light of a High Court case.

In a recent conversation, Dutta highlighted the ongoing spectacle surrounding TMC’s bank accounts. He revealed that three accounts at HDFC’s Central Plaza have approximately ₹450 crore frozen, which is now under police investigation.

Dutta noted that the Kalyan TMC has repeatedly approached the High Court, requesting the unfreezing of their funds. However, the Kolkata High Court has advised against rushing the process, stating that the TMC should follow the regular system for resolution. The court emphasized that it will determine the ownership and source of the funds, whether they belong to Kalyan TMC or Ritabrata TMC, based on police or administrative findings. Dutta expressed confusion over the party’s haste in this matter.

Additionally, he mentioned that West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced plans to implement the UCC bill in the assembly. Dutta personally supports this decision, citing Article 25 of the Constitution, which grants every individual the right to practice their religion. He clarified that the bill is not related to religion, asserting that the nation operates under the Constitution, not religious texts. He believes that civil laws should apply equally to all citizens and sees no issue with the bill, which was part of the BJP’s manifesto.

Dutta criticized those opposing the bill, suggesting they are politicizing religion to gain leverage. He reassured that the UCC bill will not impose restrictions on any religion but aims to unify all individuals under one legal framework.

Furthermore, Dutta expressed his support for the Prevention Detention Act, arguing that West Bengal has been plagued by modern cultural issues, including gang violence and criminality. He stated that just as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have eradicated such cultures, West Bengal should follow suit, emphasizing that no one is above the law.

Initially, there were concerns that the bill might be politicized against the opposition. However, Dutta praised the Chief Minister for clarifying that the bill would not be used for political gain. He thanked the Chief Minister for bringing this legislation forward.
