Kolkata, May 27: Senior leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and four-time MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has resigned from all organizational positions within the party effective immediately.
Ghosh Dastidar, the MP from Barasat, submitted her resignation letter to TMC’s state president, Subrata Bakshi.
In her letter, she expressed, “With immense pain and concern, I am resigning from all organizational roles, committees, and responsibilities, including the chairperson of the All India Trinamool Women’s Congress.”
She indirectly criticized the party’s current chief whip in the Lok Sabha, Kalyan Banerjee, who had taken over her position.
Ghosh Dastidar stated that when the behavior of an “ill-mannered and uneducated” party MP towards a female MP cannot be curtailed, and there is no support or sympathy from the senior leadership, it becomes meaningless to hold any position.
She also expressed her deep disappointment regarding attempts by party leadership to suppress corruption allegations against certain leaders.
In her letter, she voiced her discontent with the party’s response to the tragic incident involving a junior female doctor who was raped and murdered at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata in August 2024.
However, she clarified that she will remain a general member of the Trinamool Congress.
This decision comes just a day after she participated in an administrative review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari as the MP from Barasat.
Previously, Ghosh Dastidar had resigned from her position as the district president of TMC in Barasat.
Reports suggest her discontent with party leadership grew after the West Bengal Assembly election results when Mamata Banerjee replaced her as the chief whip in the Lok Sabha.
At that time, she had shared an emotional post on social media, stating, “I have known them since 1976 and have been with them since 1984. This is the reward for four decades of loyalty.”
