Kolkata, June 9: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kirti Azad has branded rebel members of his party as ‘traitors.’ He raised questions about their political ethics, stating that if these MPs have issues, they should resign from the party.
Following a defeat in West Bengal, discussions have emerged regarding the rebellion of around 20 MPs. During a press conference on Tuesday, Azad remarked, “In West Bengal, 29 TMC MPs were elected in the name of ‘Maa-Mati-Manush.’ One has passed away, leaving 28 remaining.”
Firing back at the 20 rebel MPs, Azad questioned, “I want to know from these ‘traitors’ why they only expressed their grievances after the elections. They should have raised these concerns beforehand. After the elections, numerous allegations were made. Sukendu Shekhar Roy has made accusations; whether they are right or wrong is a matter for investigation. However, on ethical grounds, he resigned from TMC. If you (the rebel MPs) possess any political ethics, you should also resign.”
He added, “Even if the BJP takes these MPs, the NDA is not merely a party; it is an organization. It is unclear how many MPs are with you. Has the number reached two-thirds? Even if I accept your claim that you have 20-22 MPs, you will have to merge with the BJP.”
Kirti Azad urged, “If this is your intention, be open about it instead of deceiving the workers who built the party. When those workers are attacked by BJP activists, will you (the rebel MPs) support them?”
He concluded, “Such leaders should feel ashamed. They are biting the hand that feeds them.”
During the conference, Azad also sharply criticized Kakoli Ghosh, stating, “What corruption occurred with Kakoli Ghosh? She was made an MP by Mamata Banerjee. She has lost five elections. She should present the letter she submitted to the Speaker.”
