Kolkata, March 25: As the nation prepares to celebrate Ram Navami on March 27, leaders from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have exchanged sharp accusations.
The TMC has accused the BJP of exploiting the festival for its “political gain.” In response, the BJP claims that the TMC only prioritizes one community in West Bengal, which is expected to vote in the upcoming two-phase assembly elections next month.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh stated, “There is no issue with worshipping Lord Ram. However, the BJP uses Lord Ram for its political advantage; that is the problem.” He further remarked, “Every religion has its own festivals. The BJP is engaging in provocative politics regarding Ram Navami. They are using the name of Lord Ram for electoral benefits.”
Ghosh also predicted a significant defeat for the BJP in the upcoming elections, while the TMC would achieve a resounding victory.
Meanwhile, during an election rally in Darjeeling, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee emphasized, “Every festival is our festival. Ram Navami is in two days, and we will also hold a Ram Navami rally. No one can buy Lord Ram. Ram symbolizes an era of goodness and righteousness. You (BJP) harm people, target them, and strip away their rights.”
However, BJP MLA Bankim Chandra Ghosh accused the Chief Minister of favoring the Muslim community. He said, “In West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee is creating difficulties for Hindus while supporting Muslims. Despite various challenges from the administration, we will celebrate Ram Navami everywhere, including in my constituency.”
BJP leader Shishir Bajoria added, “We worship Lord Ram according to Hindu customs. But in this state, only one religion is given importance because the Chief Minister believes that ‘the cow gives us milk.’”
