
Ahmedabad, March 29: Ahmedabad in Gujarat has received a significant infrastructure boost of ₹1,099 crore with the inauguration and foundation-laying of several projects on Sunday.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, presiding over the event, stated that the aim of these initiatives is to make urban life easier and more convenient while enhancing the city’s global identity.
The projects encompass housing, bridges, parks, lakes, auditoriums, and other urban amenities. Their goal is to improve civic facilities and expand infrastructure capacity.
Addressing the audience, CM Patel emphasized that the state government prioritizes making citizens’ lives easier and more convenient. The urban development efforts in Gujarat are following a sustainable policy direction.
He noted that the initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2005 as the “Urban Development Year” continues to guide planning, with 2025 also being celebrated under the same theme in the state.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Ahmedabad has gained global recognition, including the status of a “World Heritage City.” Today, Ahmedabad is advancing robustly towards modern development while maintaining its global identity.
He further stated that strengthening infrastructure and improving public welfare remain central to the government’s vision.
CM Patel revealed that in the past five years, initiatives to enhance the drinking water distribution system have been implemented, alongside over 13,000 road construction projects and 6,152 stormwater and drainage projects.
He mentioned that efforts to develop Ahmedabad as a “Green City” have achieved remarkable success, with over ₹110 crore spent on more than 450 projects under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
In the transportation sector, over ₹2,561 crore has been allocated to 21 urban mobility projects, including the development of BRTS and metro systems as part of a modern public transport network.
Patel noted that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), homes have been provided to thousands of beneficiaries in Ahmedabad at a cost exceeding ₹4,501 crore.
He stated, “The city’s cleanliness system has been recognized as the cleanest among cities with a population of over one million.”
The Chief Minister mentioned that preparations are underway to upgrade infrastructure to global standards in light of events like the Commonwealth Games and the World Police and Fire Games.
Plans to extend the Sabarmati Riverfront to Gift City and to renovate the Gandhi Ashram were also highlighted as key initiatives expected to boost tourism and large-scale development.
Patel added that the government has also taken steps to digitize Anganwadi services.
