Vaibhav Suryavanshi Shines with Record-Breaking Knock in Tri-Series Final

New Delhi, June 21: 15-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a stunning performance against Sri Lanka-A, scoring 94 runs off just 29 balls, including 8 sixes and 10 fours. He achieved a remarkable half-century in just 11 balls, setting a record for the fastest fifty in List-A cricket.

Batting first, the India-A team posted a total of 377 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. In response, Sri Lanka-A was bowled out for 311 runs in 47.1 overs. After his match-winning innings, Suryavanshi emphasized that his success stemmed from sticking to his plans rather than external expectations. He reminded critics that his skills extend beyond the T20 format.

Following his selection as ‘Player of the Match’ in India’s title-winning effort, the left-handed batsman stated that his primary goal at the start of the innings was to capitalize on fielding restrictions and trust in the hard work he had put in prior to the final.

“I didn’t overthink it. I just wanted to make the most of the first 10 overs and execute my plan,” Suryavanshi said.

After an impressive showing in IPL 2026, Suryavanshi entered the Tri-Series final with high hopes. However, he noted that external expectations never pressured him. Instead, he focused on correcting the technical flaws that had troubled him earlier in the tournament.

“There was no pressure on me, but I was trying to implement the strategies that weren’t working. I spoke with my coach and worked on it during practice. Today, the plan worked perfectly, and the results followed,” he explained.

Suryavanshi also addressed those who label him solely as a T20 specialist. Laughing, he remarked, “I’ve learned a lot. I’ve played many 50-over matches too. Perhaps people don’t know that. Different conditions, different pitches, and slightly different approaches, but it was fun. It was a great series.”

This response was particularly significant in light of a heated exchange he had with Sri Lanka-A players during the tournament. Reports suggest that Vishen Halambage told him, “Go home, this isn’t the IPL.” Following that group-stage match, Suryavanshi and Halambage exchanged pushes, requiring players from both teams to intervene. Suryavanshi answered back with his bat in the final.
