New Delhi, August 30: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) election officer A.K. Jyoti has announced the elections for two positions on the IPL Governing Council. A notice for the election has been issued under Rule 28 of the BCCI constitution. The elections will take place during the BCCI’s annual general meeting (AGM) on September 18.
According to Rule 28 of the BCCI constitution, the IPL Governing Council will have four members from the general assembly, with two being elected at the AGM. The current members, Arun Singh Dhumal from Himachal Pradesh and Khairul Jamal Majumdar from Mizoram, are expected to be re-elected unopposed. Both candidates must file their nominations by September 9 or 10. The final list of candidates will be published on September 12.
The main council that operates the IPL consists of seven members. This includes four representatives from the BCCI general assembly, which currently includes the two members up for re-election (Dhumal and Majumdar). The BCCI Secretary Devjeet Saikia and Treasurer Raghuram Bhat are ex-officio members. The remaining three seats are occupied by the BCCI CEO, a representative from the Indian Cricketers Association, and a member appointed by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
The notification is solely for the election of IPL GC members, and the likelihood of surprise elections for other posts is low. The current office bearers are expected to continue in their roles.
The electoral officer has also invited full BCCI members to submit applications to include their representatives in the electoral roll for the elections. Representatives from state associations attending the AGM will, of course, create the electoral roll.
State associations have been informed to submit applications to nominate their representatives for the AGM. After reviewing objections to the nominations, the final voter list will be published on September 8. Candidates interested in both positions must submit their official nomination papers on September 9 or 10. The final list of candidates will be released after the scrutiny of nominations on September 12, with voting and results announced on September 18 if necessary.
