Raipur, August 11: A special court established under the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act has convicted three individuals for supplying explosive materials for Naxalite activities in Narayanpur district. They have been sentenced to imprisonment and fined.
The court found Chamelei Bai, Ravi Markam (alias Sushil), and Kosru Wadde guilty based on witness statements and evidence gathered during the investigation. They received a seven-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 1,000 rupees under Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908; a two-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 500 rupees under Section 10(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967; and five years of rigorous imprisonment with a 500 rupee fine under various sections of the UAPA.
On March 19, 2024, Narayanpur police received a tip-off that certain individuals were hiding explosive materials (potassium nitrate, cordex wire, and detonators) in bundles of medicinal herbs with the intent to supply them to Naxalites. Police officials reported that, acting on this information, they seized four detonators, seven bags of potassium nitrate, seven meters of red cordex wire, and two mobile phones from the accused.
Given the seriousness of the case, the investigation was handed over to the state investigation agency based at the police headquarters in Raipur. Through interrogation and technical evidence, it was revealed that these explosives were to be transported from Narayanpur market to Taragaon via Ravi Markam and Chamelei Bai for delivery to Naxalite cadres and their suppliers.
During the investigation, Kosru Wadde, a resident of the Gawdi village in the Thulthuli Panchayat area of the Orchha police station in Narayanpur district, was also identified as an accused. He was arrested by the state investigation agency and placed in judicial custody. After the investigation was completed, a charge sheet was filed in the Narayanpur special court (N Act).
Narayanpur police and the state investigation agency have stated that they will continue to take strict action against those supporting Naxalite activities and will act against anyone involved in activities that pose a threat to law and order and security.
