Quetta (Balochistan), October 20 (Daily Kiran): The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for four coordinated attacks across the province — in Mastung, Balgatar, and Surab — that resulted in the deaths of three Pakistani Army officers. The group also seized weapons from soldiers and set fire to heavy machinery at some sites.

Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen shot dead the brother of a provincial legislator from the National Party in Panjgur district, while members of the Levies Force began demonstrations across the province opposing the government’s decision to merge the Levies with the police.

According to a report by The Balochistan Post (Pashto edition), BLA spokesperson Jand Baloch confirmed the operations, stating that their commanders launched separate attacks targeting Pakistani security forces and collaborators in the three districts. He said that during an ambush in Mastung’s desert area on October 17, BLA fighters attacked infantry personnel and destroyed heavy machinery at a military construction site in Maro area.

In another operation, the BLA used a remote-controlled IED to target the Kurki check post in Balgatar, killing one military officer instantly. On October 16, the group attacked a Levies check post at Mil Shahurai in Surab, seizing weapons. The spokesperson said the check post was involved in extortion activities, adding that while BLA does not normally target Levies, it would act against officers “involved in oppression.”

Separately, in Panjgur district, Walid Saleh Baloch, brother of Balochistan Assembly member Mir Rahmat Saleh Baloch, was shot dead outside his home by unidentified assailants late on October 19. Police confirmed that Walid was the son of National Party leader Haji Saleh Mohammad and brother of district president Malik Saleh Baloch. The attackers fled the scene after the shooting.

In another development, the Balochistan government has issued a notification to integrate the Levies Force into the provincial police, sparking widespread protests among Levies personnel. In Kalat, officers and soldiers held a large rally that started from the Levies headquarters and passed through major city roads before concluding in a public meeting.

Addressing the gathering, Levies officials said the force has a 142-year-old legacy and has played a vital role in maintaining peace and order in Balochistan. They opposed the merger plan, calling it a failed experiment of the past that should not be repeated.
