
Hyderabad, June 8: In celebration of World Bicycle Day, thousands of citizens, athletes, students, and fitness enthusiasts participated in the special edition of ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ held in Telangana on Sunday. The event featured extensive cycling and fitness activities across the state.
The major event took place at the Gachibowli Practice Stadium, where Telangana’s Governor, Shiv Pratap Shukla, flagged off the cycling rally in the presence of senior ministers, government officials, and sports administrators.
Organized by the Telangana Sports Authority (SATG) under the Sports Department, the event saw participants from hundreds of locations across the state, promoting fitness, a healthy lifestyle, and environmental awareness.
Notable attendees included IT and Commerce Minister Duddila Sridhar Babu, Youth Services and Sports Minister V. Srinivas Goud, Andhra Pradesh’s special representative to the government in New Delhi, Jitendra Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Telangana Sports Authority Chairman Shiv Sena Reddy, and SATG Vice Chairman and Managing Director Dr. A. Sonibala Devi.
Addressing the participants, Governor Shukla emphasized the role of cycling in improving public health and environmental conservation. He urged citizens to adopt cycling as a regular habit in line with the objectives of the Fit India Movement.
Participants began arriving early at the venue and took part in a Zumba warm-up session before joining the cycling rally. After the ride, medals were distributed to participants, followed by a community breakfast.
Launched on August 29, 2019, the Fit India Movement aims to make fitness an integral part of daily life. The ‘Sundays on Cycle’ initiative has since transformed into a nationwide campaign, engaging over 300,000 cycling enthusiasts and reaching more than 70 million citizens through grassroots events and awareness programs.
The celebrations in Telangana included participation from personnel of the CRPF, Indian Air Force, CISF, ITBP, CGDA, ESIC, police departments, sports academies, Khelo India centers, educational institutions, cycling clubs, and software companies.
