Patna, April 20: Thousands of women from across Bihar gathered at the historic Gandhi Maidan on Monday, united in their declaration: “We will claim our rights.”
The Jan Aakrosh Women’s Conference, organized by the BJP Mahila Morcha, saw women braving the intense heat to voice their demands for rights. Frustrated by the non-passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act in the Lok Sabha, these women held opposition parties accountable, specifically targeting Congress and RJD among others.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and BJP state president Sanjay Sarawagi, along with women leaders from the NDA, rallied the spirits of the women present. Sarawagi emphasized that the bill had generated excitement among women across the country, as it promised them opportunities for leadership. However, he lamented that opposition actions prevented the Nari Shakti Vandan Act from passing in the Lok Sabha.
He stated that the failure to pass this bill disrespected women’s dignity. While women faced humiliation, opposition members appeared to celebrate. This situation has undermined the respect of millions of women across the nation. If the Women’s Reservation Bill had been approved, the number of female representatives in the Bihar Assembly would have surged from 29 to at least 125. The RJD and the Grand Alliance’s actions against women’s rights are intolerable, and women are here to reclaim their dignity.
Sarawagi warned that this anger would manifest on the ground. He noted that disrespect towards women has become the hallmark of the IND alliance. Those who resist granting women their rights must understand that this is a matter of respect for every daughter and sister in the country. Women in their own homes are also affected by this injustice. This public outrage will not be confined to Patna; it will spread to every district and household, transforming the struggle for women’s respect into a movement for all.
