Thousands Gather for Sacred Dip at Triveni Sangam on Nirjala Ekadashi

Prayagraj, June 25: On the auspicious occasion of Nirjala Ekadashi, a remarkable scene of devotion unfolded at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. From early morning, thousands of devotees arrived at the confluence to take a holy dip in the waters of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati, praying for prosperity, family happiness, and world peace.

One devotee shared, “Today is the sacred festival of Nirjala Ekadashi. We have come to bathe at Triveni Sangam. After the dip, we performed prayers and religious rituals. This day is considered extremely auspicious.”

Nirjala Ekadashi, also known as Bhimaseni Ekadashi, is regarded as one of the most significant Ekadashis in Hinduism. On this day, devotees observe a fast without food or water, dedicating their prayers to Lord Vishnu.

The atmosphere in Prayagraj was filled with special religious fervor for this festival. Temples and ghats were crowded with devotees, creating a vibrant atmosphere of devotion throughout the region.

Meanwhile, priest Gopal Das Ji Maharaj emphasized the importance of the festival, stating, “Today is Bhimaseni Ekadashi, or Nirjala Ekadashi. It is believed that observing this fast yields the same merit as all the Ekadashis throughout the year.”

In Haridwar, Mahant Ravindra Puri, president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, noted that according to the Mahabharata, sage Vedavyasa advised Bhima to observe the Nirjala Ekadashi fast. He mentioned that this year, the significance of the festival has increased, as there are 26 Ekadashis instead of the usual 24 due to an extra month in the Hindu calendar.

Mahant Ravindra Puri urged devotees to bathe in the holy river or at home, focusing on the worship and chanting of Lord Narayan. It is believed that Lord Narayan resides in water, making bathing on this day particularly significant.

ASP Anushka Badola stated, “Security arrangements will remain in place until the evening Ganga Aarti. All personnel on duty are present, and while the flow of devotees continues, the crowd is currently manageable.”

A devotee remarked, “Today is the sacred day for the Ekadashi dip. It is believed that donating fruits, water, fans, and other useful items on Ekadashi brings spiritual merit and blessings.”
