Theft at Shiv Temple in Bijnor: Young Man Arrested for Stealing Deity Statue

Bijnor, June 7: A theft and vandalism incident has emerged at a temple located within the premises of a teaching institution in Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh. Police have arrested a young man accused of stealing cash and religious items from the donation box at the Shiv temple situated in Bhagwant Degree College. The suspect has been identified as Shadab, a resident of the Ahmad Nagar neighborhood in Chandpur.

According to reports, the accused entered the Shiv temple late Saturday night. He allegedly removed cash from the donation box and also took a copper statue of the Nagdevta deity. Additionally, he is accused of damaging other religious items and removing a bell from the temple.

The college’s watchman spotted the suspect during the incident. He quickly apprehended him and raised an alarm, attracting nearby residents. A crowd soon gathered at the scene. Upon receiving the information, Chandpur police arrived and took the suspect into custody.

Chandpur Circle Officer (CO) Desh Deepak stated that police were informed around 11 PM on June 6 about a young man attempting to flee after stealing the Nagdevta statue and cash from the donation box at Bhagwant Degree College. The security guard on duty promptly caught him.

According to police officials, the suspect, identified as Shadab from Ahmad Nagar in Chandpur, was found in possession of the stolen Nagdevta statue and ₹732 taken from the donation box. The police have seized the recovered items and initiated necessary legal proceedings.

CO Desh Deepak confirmed that a case is being registered under relevant sections at Chandpur police station. Interrogation of the suspect is ongoing, and all aspects of the case are under investigation. Authorities are also trying to determine whether the motive behind the incident was solely theft or if other factors were involved.
