The Uncanny Connection Between Divya Bharti and Sridevi: From Death to Stardom

Mumbai, April 4: In the 1980s and 1990s, Sridevi was a major superstar in Hindi cinema, leaving a legacy that few new actresses could rival. Audiences were captivated by her beauty and lively persona. However, in 1992, Divya Bharti made her debut in Bollywood, leading to comparisons with Sridevi among fans and industry insiders alike. With back-to-back hits in the same year, many began to see Divya as Sridevi’s successor, but her untimely death shocked the film industry.

The similarities between Divya Bharti and Sridevi are striking and have intrigued many. Both actresses shared a resemblance, with Divya’s large eyes and curly hair often drawing comparisons to Sridevi. This resemblance earned Divya the nickname “Mini Sridevi,” which she considered a significant compliment. In an interview, Divya mentioned that she had never had a proper meeting with Sridevi, with their only encounter being a brief exchange at an airport where she simply said “hi.”

Moreover, the birth and death dates of Divya and Sridevi create a remarkable coincidence. Divya was born on February 25, while Sridevi passed away just a day earlier, on February 24. The mystery surrounding Divya’s death remains unresolved. It is still unclear whether she accidentally fell from her fourth-floor apartment or if foul play was involved. Her husband, producer Sajid Nadiadwala, was also scrutinized during the investigation.

Similarly, the news of Sridevi’s sudden death while attending a family wedding sent shockwaves across the nation. Various theories emerged regarding her demise, ranging from drowning in a bathtub to cardiac arrest. Speculations also arose about the possibility of murder rather than a natural death, with her husband, filmmaker Boney Kapoor, facing scrutiny. However, no conclusive evidence has surfaced.

The film “Laadla” also connects Divya Bharti and Sridevi. Initially, Divya was set to star alongside Anil Kapoor, with over 50% of the film already shot before her sudden passing. Following her death, the film was handed over to Sridevi. Interestingly, there were no noticeable differences in their looks for the role. It was even noted that both actresses would stumble over the same dialogue, leaving the crew astonished. Additionally, both began their careers in South Indian cinema before dominating Bollywood, and both married filmmakers.
