
Mumbai, June 27: Renowned playback singer Shan honored the legendary composer R.D. Burman on his 87th birth anniversary by performing the timeless classic “Rimjhim Gire Saawan.”
Shan shared a video on his social media account, showcasing him in a yellow T-shirt, enjoying the monsoon season in his garden. He then presented the famous tune of the late composer.
At the beginning of the video, the singer remarked, “The weather is beautiful, and there’s a hint of melancholy. It’s the monsoon season, and this is my small tribute on Pancham Da’s birthday.” He sang “Rimjhim Gire Saawan” with deep emotion.
The song “Rimjhim Gire Saawan” is from the 1979 film “Manzil,” featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Moushumi Chatterjee. Composed by R.D. Burman, it was immortalized by two popular versions sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. Today, it is regarded as one of the finest songs related to the monsoon in Hindi cinema.
Known as “Pancham Da,” Rahul Dev Burman revolutionized Hindi film music by seamlessly blending Indian melodies with Western genres like jazz, rock, and Latin music. His popularity soared due to this innovative approach.
Throughout his nearly three-decade career in the Indian film industry, he composed music for over 300 films. His timeless creations include hits like “Chura Liya Hai Tumne,” “Mahbooba Mahbooba,” “Dam Maro Dam,” “Ye Shaam Mastani,” “Musafir Hoon Yaaron,” and “Tere Bina Zindagi Se.”
Born on June 27, 1939, in Kolkata, R.D. Burman was the son of the famous composer Sachin Dev Burman and lyricist Meera Dev Burman. S.D. Burman is also celebrated as one of the greatest music directors in Indian cinema, known for his memorable scores in films like “Guide,” “Pyaasa,” “Bandini,” “Jewel Thief,” and “Aradhana.”
R.D. Burman passed away on January 4, 1994, at the age of 54.
