Chennai, June 27: The esteemed Tamil filmmaker and actor, Krishna Swamy Bhagyaraj (K. Bhagyaraj), passed away on Saturday due to a heart attack. Director M. Rajesh expressed his sorrow over Bhagyaraj’s demise.
He wrote on social media, “May God grant peace to your soul, the legendary K. Bhagyaraj. Your storytelling skills, humor, and timeless scripts have inspired generations of writers and directors. Your legacy will live on through your memorable films and the countless filmmakers you have influenced. Rest in peace, sir.”
Born on January 7, 1953, in Tamil Nadu, Krishna Swamy Bhagyaraj worked in over 75 films. Many of his movies were blockbusters. He was renowned for his scriptwriting and directing abilities. Bhagyaraj effectively used humor to address social issues, creating entertaining films that appealed to audiences from all walks of life.
Several of his films, such as ‘Andha 7 Natkal’ (remade in Hindi as ‘Wo Saat Din’), ‘Mundhanai Mudichu,’ ‘Thooral Ninnu Pochu,’ ‘Darling Darling Darling,’ ‘Idhu Namma Aalu,’ ‘Indru Poi Naalai Va,’ ‘Mouna Geethangal,’ and ‘Rudra,’ were major hits. Many of his films have been dubbed or remade in various languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Odia.
In addition to being a remarkable writer, Bhagyaraj was also a talented actor. He played lead roles in several films and penned captivating stories, including the narrative for ‘Oru Kaidhiyin Diary,’ directed by his mentor Bharathiraja, featuring Kamal Haasan in the lead role.
This film was remade in Hindi as ‘Aakhri Rasta,’ with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead, and was directed by K. Bhagyaraj himself.
