New Delhi, February 27: It is said that after death, every individual must account for their deeds. Based on the good and bad actions in life, humans receive their next birth. But do you know where this accounting takes place after death?
In Uttarakhand, there exists a temple where individuals must answer for all their actions. It is believed that visiting this temple during one’s lifetime grants liberation from the consequences of their deeds. We are talking about the Dharmeshwar Mahadev Temple.
Located within the Chaurasi Temple complex in Uttarakhand, Dharmeshwar Mahadev is a miraculous temple. It is said that the court of Yama, the god of death, convenes here to assess human actions. Inside the sanctum of the Dharmeshwar Mahadev Temple, a Shivling shaped like a pot is installed, believed to represent Yama himself. Local beliefs state that those who do not visit the temple while alive must face Lord Dharmeshwar Mahadev after death. On the occasion of Bhai Dooj, the temple attracts a significant crowd, as sisters come to pray for their brothers’ long lives.
Lord Shiva, in the form of Yama, keeps a record of human deeds with the assistance of Chitragupta. A space behind the temple is dedicated to Chitragupta, where one can see a black stone and a slab marked with lines. It is believed that these markings determine whether a person will ascend to heaven or descend to hell.
Additionally, not far from the temple lies a place called Dahi Paudi. This is where individuals who die an untimely death must spend their remaining time. It is considered essential for any devotee visiting the temple to also visit these three locations. Regarding the temple’s history, it is believed that Maharaja Krishna Giri meditated at this site, making it a sacred place.
