New Delhi, August 18: Tensions are escalating in New Delhi following the alleged brutal murder of a sanitation worker on duty. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Delhi Police are at odds over the incident. AAP’s Delhi state president, Saurabh Bhardwaj, has leveled serious accusations against the police, claiming they are pressuring the deceased worker’s family to conduct a forced cremation.
According to the party, the family of the deceased is demanding justice and appropriate compensation. However, they allege that the police are coercing the family to proceed with the cremation against their wishes.
In the wake of the sanitation worker’s death, thousands of sanitation workers have been protesting for the past two days. Their primary demand is for the family to receive a compensation of one crore rupees and for justice to be served. AAP claims that amidst the protests and demands for compensation, the police transported the deceased’s body from the hospital to the family home and pressured them to carry out the cremation.
Party leaders have raised serious concerns about the urgency to perform the cremation without the family’s consent. They argue that the deceased’s family is impoverished and belongs to the Dalit community, urging the government and police to heed their demands and take action towards justice. Bhardwaj criticized the police’s conduct, suggesting it undermines democratic principles.
The party also reported that the family has been repeatedly urged by the police to proceed with the cremation. They insist that justice must be served in the murder case before any cremation takes place. Additionally, AAP has accused the police of detaining their MLA, Kuldeep Kumar, during the night and taking away the DVR from his home. Another party MLA, Sanjeev Jha, described the sanitation worker’s murder as a tragic and serious incident, emphasizing the need for justice for the family.
Jha mentioned that he visited the office of the DCP East District to inquire about Kuldeep Kumar’s situation. He stated that he sought to meet the DCP and advocate for justice for the sanitation worker’s family, but the DCP was unavailable at that time. He called for clarity from the police regarding the reasons for Kumar’s detention and any actions being taken against him.
Jha questioned why attempts are being made to silence a public representative advocating for a victim’s family. He asserted that the voice for justice cannot be suppressed and called for transparency from the police in this matter. AAP has demanded that the Delhi government and police promptly consider the deceased sanitation worker’s family’s demands, conduct a fair investigation into the murder, and provide adequate compensation. Party leaders emphasized that the cremation should be conducted with the family’s consent and dignity, without any form of coercion.
