Kolkata, August 18: Ritabrata Banerjee, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, has raised concerns regarding the death of Ashish Banerjee. He has also addressed allegations against Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and MP Kirti Azad.
In a conversation with a news agency on Monday, Ritabrata Banerjee stated, “We are demanding an investigation into Ashish Banerjee’s death. We have also met with CM Suvendu Adhikari regarding this matter. We need to understand why this happened and whether he received any threats.” He emphasized that allegations suggest that tenders for a development authority are being prepared in Kolkata, not just within the TRDA, indicating a broader issue that requires investigation. A letter has been sent to the Chief Minister to clarify the situation.
He noted that they have not reached any conclusions yet. “The complete picture will only emerge after a forensic investigation. It will clarify whether the letter was written by Ashish or someone else. For now, we cannot comment further. The post-mortem report will provide more insights, and the letter will be examined by experts to reveal the truth,” he added.
Ritabrata Banerjee remarked that if this is a suicide, it could be termed as institutional murder. “His son was with me. After the press conference, he expressed that this is indeed a form of institutional murder. Therefore, we have written to the CM demanding transparency in this case,” he said.
Additionally, he responded to Kirti Azad’s statements, asserting that such behavior is not part of West Bengal’s culture. “Perhaps in Kirti Azad’s region, this culture exists, but it is not reflective of our democratic values,” he concluded.
