Bhubaneswar, June 17: Tension gripped the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Wednesday after the body of a young man was discovered under suspicious circumstances. Locals and family members accused murderers and blocked roads in protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.
The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Prabhat Behera, a manager of a heavy vehicle. His body was found early Wednesday morning near the village, showing deep signs of injury, which caused a stir in the area. Upon learning of the incident, family and villagers gathered on Pahala Road, blocking traffic and starting a demonstration.
In the FIR filed, the victim’s family accused the owner of the heavy vehicle and his brother of murdering Prabhat due to an old feud. Police stated that locals were demanding the presence of the arrested suspects at the scene, which was deemed inappropriate. Efforts were made by the police to calm the situation.
The roadblock lasted for over two hours and was resolved only after police assured appropriate action against the offenders. Meanwhile, the police have initiated an investigation and have detained the vehicle owner and his brother for questioning at the Pahala police station. A scientific team from the police also inspected the crime scene, collecting crucial evidence.
In a conversation with the media, the victim’s brother stated that Prabhat had no enemies. He alleged that the suspects had lured Prabhat out of his home in a premeditated manner before killing him. He also mentioned that Prabhat had previously left the job due to a dispute over unpaid wages with the vehicle owner but was later called back to work.
Family members insist that Prabhat Behera was murdered due to an old grudge and are demanding strict action against all involved in the case.
