Hyderabad, April 18: Telangana’s Minister of Industries and Information Technology, D. Sridhar Babu, announced on Friday that the government is taking strategic steps to develop the state into a key aerospace hub for the country, aligning with future industrial needs.
He highlighted that, according to Boeing and Airbus, there will be a demand for 42,000 new aircraft over the next 20 years. Hyderabad is being prepared to seize this opportunity.
Speaking at a national conference organized by the Aeronautical Society of India, he emphasized that future-driven technologies such as drones, reusable rockets, AI-based avionics, 3D printing, and advanced materials are crucial for the aerospace sector’s growth, and Telangana is gearing up for these advancements.
The minister noted that over 1,500 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Hyderabad are already supplying parts to global aerospace giants, strengthening the ‘Made in Telangana’ brand. With robust infrastructure, aerospace parks, research and development institutions, and a pool of skilled talent, Telangana is attracting global aerospace investments.
He invited entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, and innovators to collaborate with the state government in shaping the future of aerospace in Hyderabad.
Sridhar Babu stressed the need to develop domestic testing and certification infrastructure, as reliance on foreign facilities increases costs and delays production by 18 to 24 months. He called on the central government for support in establishing a world-class certification system in Hyderabad.
The minister also emphasized the importance of building a strong ecosystem that adapts to global challenges and changes in the aerospace sector.
He stated that aerospace is no longer limited to manufacturing; it symbolizes a nation’s strategic power and confidence. While the U.S., Russia, and European countries once dominated this field, India is now playing a significant role in the global supply chain.
