Hyderabad, August 25: The inspector of the Jubilee Hills police station in Hyderabad has been suspended in connection with a case involving N. Sumanth, the former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Telangana’s Forest and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha.
The suspension follows allegations of delays in filing an FIR and failing to locate the accused, Sumanth. Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar issued the suspension order and has also mandated a departmental inquiry to review the case and police procedures.
Sumanth is currently on the run in connection with an alleged assault on a real estate businessman. Police had detained his driver on Sunday.
Based on a complaint from the businessman, an FIR was filed against Sumanth and five others. The complainant alleged that he was assaulted with an iron rod and extorted for 10 crore rupees. The case includes charges of attempted murder against Sumanth and the other accused.
Last week, a zero FIR was registered against Sumanth and five others at the Medipally police station under the Malkajgiri police commissionerate. The case was later transferred to the Jubilee Hills police station in Hyderabad.
The complainant, Gongidi Harikrishna, stated that he was beaten with iron rods and threatened with severe consequences. He alleged that Sumanth had summoned him to Ramu’s office on July 30, where he was reportedly assaulted.
Harikrishna claims that he suffered a fracture in his left arm and multiple serious injuries, requiring surgery on August 10.
This incident has emerged amid political controversies surrounding Minister Konda Surekha’s family. Recently, her daughter, Konda Sushmita, stirred unrest within the ruling Congress party by making statements against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
During her mother’s birthday celebration in Warangal district, Sushmita declared her intention to contest the next assembly election from the Parkal constituency, regardless of whether the party grants her a ticket. She also accused the Chief Minister’s family of corruption.
In response to these statements, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s disciplinary committee issued a show-cause notice to Minister Konda Surekha. She distanced herself from her daughter’s remarks, stating that Sushmita expressed her personal views.
