Hyderabad, August 9: Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao extended their greetings on the occasion of ‘World Tribal Day’ on Sunday.
The Governor emphasized that the rich culture, traditions, and age-old wisdom of tribal communities are invaluable treasures of our heritage. For generations, they have been the guardians of forests, water, biodiversity, and nature, preserving the Earth for future generations.
He called upon everyone to respect their rights, dignity, identity, and lifestyle while ensuring equal opportunities and inclusive development. “Let us honor their invaluable contributions and work together to preserve their heritage and create a sustainable future for all,” said Governor Shukla.
On this special day, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao also conveyed his best wishes to tribal people. He noted that they regard nature as divine and the forest as their mother, having safeguarded their culture and traditions for generations.
He stated, “The roots of world civilization and the lifestyle intrinsically linked to nature define the culture of tribal people. Their knowledge, culture, traditions, communal lifestyle, and cultural preservation, which have been the foundation of their existence, serve as a guiding light for all humanity. Let us collectively respect their rights, existence, and culture, ensuring their welfare, development, and self-respect.”
K.T. Rama Rao, Executive President of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), remarked that tribal people symbolize diverse cultures and traditions and are the protectors of nature.
He added, “Tribal communities love and respect forests, trees, and wildlife. They embody the courage of Kumaram Bheem, who raised the slogan of ‘Water, Forest, Land’.”
The former minister highlighted that to promote the advancement of Scheduled Tribes, the KCR government has proposed increasing ST reservations from 6% to 10% in the assembly and subsequently issued orders. The government has also granted village panchayat status to tribal settlements and housing.
He posted on social media, “The BRS government constructed the Kumaram Bheem Tribal Bhavan in the heart of Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, as a symbol of tribal self-respect. Additionally, the name of Asifabad district has been changed to Kumaram Bheem, and a beautiful memorial park has been established in Jodeghat.”
He emphasized that numerous initiatives have been launched during KCR’s tenure, including providing clean drinking water to settlements and homes, increasing the number of ST Gurukuls and colleges, and offering Ambedkar Overseas Scholarships.
